When did the Petit project start? Was it your first musical experience or not?
Petit started in Majorca around 2006. I've played piano since I was 7, taught myself to play guitar and been manager of a few bands and roadmanager and producer of bigger acts before started playing. So I guess it was not my first experience!

Your music suggests us echoes of Neil Young and Eels, among others. In your opinion, which are the artists who mostly influenced you?

I guess you got it right with Neil Young. Remember how The band: The Last Waltz made a great impact on me when I was a teenager. But also I would recognize as an influence anything from PJ Harvey to Leonard Cohen, walking through Dylan, Tom Waits or Lou Reed. That as a lyricist. As a musician, the amount of influences is way to large just to name a few.

Your lyrics are intimate, describing what seems to be a very private Petit. They often give us snapshots of a man while sleeping, dreaming or bringing back private memories like, for example, his first kiss. Could you tell us more about your songwriting process?

Lyrics are to me, the most important part of my work. They come first, and around them I build a music that gives those words a very personal dress. As with persons, you can dress them in many ways but the essence will be the same.
Thus, I really take care of how sound and music can influence the perception those words and complement the message of the song. So, to answer your question after this brief introduction: all my lyrics talk in first person about situations I have lived.
All are very personal and in a way they help me to get a perspective about certain experiences that were for me a bit sad, or painful or something to learn about.
I try to use a very understandable language so anyone can relate to it. I usually tend to go to those points that made all persons alike. Those situations where we can all be found. Those words search the listener's empathy and try, in a very personal way, to make anyone who can relate to it, feel embraced in their suffering, joy or hope and fears.

Your label is Manlay Recording, which is entirely managed by the artists themselves. That sounds like an horizontal organization. Does Manlay have any producer (we're talking about someone who gives his contribute to improve releases' sound) or did the artists find any substitutive figure?

Manlay Recording was a venture petit joined for the release of it's first album, Loveshines Firefly. That was a way to dress the cd in a professional way, but with all the inconveniences of a label that does not really exist further than from its concept. A name under where you could put your music and you take care of everything. Therefore, I produced all records Petit has made (Soulsaver bird EP, Loveshines Firefly CD and the Blackbird Daisy EP). As a producer and mixing engineer I've worked with Poomse's debut album Tomorrow will come and it will be fine (Foehn Records).

Next Indietravel episode will be dedicated to Barcellona's underground music and we'll talk, among others, about U_mä, Nico Roig, Evripidis and his Tragedies and of course Petit. What's your opinion about indipendent musical scene in Barcellona? Is there any band or musician that you would like to suggest to our listeners?

Barcelona is a big city with tons of good musicians and interesting projects. Here there's lots of good artists and to name just a few I could really give good info is: Mia Salazar's project The Big Head Troubled Boy, Icebend, Williamsburg or the dutch great singer Rik Van den Bosch.

Will we get the lucky chance to see you playing somewhere in Italy?

I hope I'll be lucky to meet you!!! To be honest, Petit has learned by now to be adaptative and flexible. So here in Barcelona we have the capability to travel easily with van/train/plane anywhere in the world where the music I made has someone willing to listen. Italy? Why not! Will you help us to come to visit soon? We are very nice people, clean and dont get in trouble! :-) Petit is a very small team of people who wants to listen to music and doesnt care about musical industry, I've played anywhere from big theaters, big venues and big festivals to small living rooms on penthouse terraces without any p.a. So, if you want to listen, I/we will come and play for you!

Ricordo come The band: The Last Waltz mi abbia colpito molto quando ero teenager.

Come produttore e mixing engineer ho lavorato invece all’album di debutto di Poomse Tomorrow will come and it will be fine (Foehn Records).

In Italia? Perché no? Ci aiuterete a venire?
